who we help/darren's story

DarrenDarren is 38.  He suffers from depression and has struggled to come to terms with family illness and alcohol addiction.  At times he says he can do nothing more than cling to the bed head until the depression is lifted.  Three years ago, he was released from prison and began sleeping rough.

Wallich Clifford provided Darren with a support worker, who made regular home visits, offered him advice and guidance, help with keeping appointments, maintaining his new tenancy and ultimately a friendship.

About nine months ago, Darren pursued a lifetime ambition to play guitar.  With help from his support worker (a keen guitarist), he has learnt to play, and has an interest which has given him a sense of purpose and an activity to fill his time.

Darren says “I’d probably be back in prison now if it wasn’t for the support I’ve received.  I’ve got a real home for the first time in my life.”
