who we help/gill's story
Gill is 62. She has been receiving tenancy support from the Wallich Clifford Community at her home in Blaenau Gwent and describes the service as her ‘lifeline’.
Due to problems within her family, she was asked by social services to have her grandchildren live with her.
Gill was struggling with her finances and getting into debt. She was trying to survive on a very small pension, and says “It literally came down to a choice between paying my rent, or putting food on the table for the kids”.
At her most desperate, Gill considered suicide.
She was referred to Wallich Clifford by adult social services, after a long history of being disappointed with various support agencies and their failure to delver on promises.
Gill has received help from a Wallich Clifford tenancy support worker (whom she describes as being ‘part of the family’) with accessing the correct benefits, maintaining her tenancy, and repaying her debts.
Gill says she is ‘getting there, slowly’ and says the best thing about Wallich Clifford is that ‘they always do what they say they are going to do’.
