who we help/ieuan's story

Ieuan's StoryIeuan stayed at our Riverside project for homeless people who are at risk of offending, and who are committed to participating in education, training or voluntary work.

Before Ieuan came to the Riverside project he had moved about a lot; staying with a friend, renting accommodation privately for a while, and living at one of our hostels for a number of months.

Ieuan suffered from depression and this made sustaining a tenancy unsupported difficult for him.  However, Ieuan was committed to addressing his problems and moving on with his life.

"I think that the Riverside project is doing a lot of good for the people who are living here.  I suffer from depression, but the staff here have been brilliant.  There's so much support, and that makes it easier to sort yourself out.  The staff can arrange detox, and the things you need to help you out, the range in opportunities for training is good too.

I've done volunteer work at my old primary school.  I started out coaching the football, and then the teacher wanted me to help out with the kid's reading so I did that as well. I enjoyed it; it really did me good.  I've applied and been accepted to do football coaching again.

I like living here; you get a lot of support.  But I'd love a place of my own.  What I've learnt living here will help me in a place of my own because we've got to be self-sufficient.  We buy our own food, our own cleaning materials, everything.

I'm hoping to move on, and the staff have helped me.  I would be alright now in my own flat."
