who we help/tanya's story
Tanya was 16 when her mum told her to move out. She was provided with a flat by the council, but her age, and inexperience made her a vulnerable target, and she was abused by her peers. Over a number of months they damaged her flat, stole her money, and even physically abused her.
The police decided Tanya was not safe, and moved her to emergency Bed & Breakfast accommodation. This solution was very isolating for a young person and she was eventually offered a flat in Wallich Clifford’s Clos Sant Paul, a 24 hour supported accommodation project housing nine 18-24 year olds in self contained flats.
Staff say Tanya has blossomed since last October. Now aged 18, she hopes to re-sit her GCSE’s in September with the intention of going on to do a law course next year.
