Welsh Charity Short-Listed for Prestigious National Award
09.11.08

A homelessness charity based in Cardiff has been short-listed for a prestigious national prize at the 2008 Personnel Today Awards and now faces competition from the likes of Thornton’s, BT and Ladbrokes to win.

Billed as ‘the most coveted awards in the HR profession’, the Personnel Today Awards recognize outstanding achievement in the Human Resources field. Previous winners include; Vodafone, BSkyB, Royal Bank of Scotland and The AA.

The Wallich, a leading Welsh homelessness charity, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, has been short listed, from hundreds of entries, for the HR Impact Award which is given to the organisation whose HR department has made the biggest impact on the organisation as a whole.

The Wallich was chosen for its commitment to effective absence management and its dedication to the health and well-being of its 200 staff members across Wales.

The small HR team at The Wallich, who work in the charity’s offices on Cathedral Road will go to London for a pre-awards ceremony ‘meet and greet’ with the judges on September 11th, prior to the actual awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel on November 28th.

Suzanne Morris, Senior HR Manager for The Wallich says;

“We face tough competition for the award from big businesses such as Thornton’s, BT and Ladbrokes, and, as a small welsh charity we are really proud to be counted among them. The award would be a huge recognition for the hard work we have undertaken as a team, but if we don’t win, we won’t be too disappointed. The impact we have made on the organisation is reward enough for us.”
