Homeless Youngsters Send Gifts to Troops
09.09.09
Young people at a hostel for the homeless in Llanelli, facing hardship in their own lives, have shown incredible generosity and selflessness by raising money to support others.
The Wallich ‘Clos Sant Paul’ Project provides a safe, stable home for young people aged 16-25 who find themselves homeless, and supports them to move on to live happy, secure, independent lives.
The residents of the hostel, which has links with 105 Troop 40th Regiment Royal Artillery based in Helmand Province, took part in various fund raising activities and with the proceeds bought boxes of ‘treats’ (food, toiletries, sweets etc) to send to soldiers fighting on the front line in Afghanistan.
They also wrote letters of support and sent toys for the troops to give as gifts to Afghani children.
Resident Nici Morgan, one of the fundraisers said:
“I feel that sending boxes has allowed me to support other young people like myself”
When the Regiment returns to the UK in the Autumn, some of the soldiers will be visiting the Clos Sant Paul Hostel to thank the fundraisers in person and to share details of their experiences.
Hostel Manager, Paul Sheridan says:
“I see this as an example of generous young people, who may be going through a tough time themselves, recognising and supporting other young people carrying out a very difficult job. I’m very proud of them.”
